Controls

You only need the left mouse button for everything. I spent the first minute trying to drag the screen before realizing it's click-only. Click units to assign jobs and hit UI buttons to upgrade rooms. It's super simple, but I wish there was a hover tooltip on the factory chains sometimes.

What is Hivebound?

Hivebound is an idle strategy sim where you manage an insect colony. You spawn Worker Ants and Heavy Carrier Ants to gather raw leaves and nutrients. Then you feed that stuff into chambers like the Grinder and Spindle Nest to process materials into silk and crystals. It’s a factory line, but with bugs. If you like watching numbers go up and optimizing production lines, this is for you. It's pretty chill, though the pace drags if you don't actively manage the upgrades.

How to Play Hivebound

You start with a basic nest and a few ants. Click to spawn workers and watch them drag leaves back. Once you have resources, build a Grinder to process leaves. The early wall hits around level 5 when you run out of storage space, forcing you to upgrade your Refinery. Don't ignore the tutorial prompts or you'll miss the unlock for the Silk Weaver Beetle. A full run takes about twenty minutes if you're clicking fast, but it's mostly idle.

Hivebound Key Features

Command 3 specific ant types including the Heavy Carrier.
Build 4 different chambers like the Crystal Chamber.
Transform raw leaf bundles into 3 types of refined goods.
Completely free 2D top-down interface.
Manage supply lines for nutrient globules and silk.

Why Choose Hivebound

Pick this if you want a management game that doesn't demand constant clicking. It scratches the same itch as those ant farm simulators but with a fantasy twist. The graphics are clean, but don't expect a story. It's raw gameplay. Just be ready for the resource chains to get messy fast if you don't stay on top of them.

Hivebound Pro Tips

1Don't hoard raw leaves; they clog up your storage instantly.
2Upgrade the Spindle Nest as soon as you unlock silk production.
3I made a mistake ignoring the Heavy Carrier Ant—get him early.
4Check the Refinery often to prevent bottlenecks.
5Keep at least two Worker Ants on the field at all times.

Hivebound FAQ

Can I play Hivebound on my phone? Nope, it's desktop only. The UI is built for a mouse, so tapping on a touchscreen would be a nightmare anyway.
Is the game endless? Sort of. You can keep upgrading, but the resource curve gets steep around level 15.
What do Silk Weaver Beetles actually do? They automatically collect silk fibers so you don't have to assign Worker Ants to that task. They save you a lot of clicking.
Do I lose progress if I close the tab? Yes. There is no save feature. If you refresh, your colony is gone.
Why is my production stopped? You probably hit the storage cap. Sell some resources or upgrade the Grinder to fix it.
